But can Chelsea genuinely challenge for the Premier League title in 2026/27?

After several seasons of inconsistency, managerial changes, and underwhelming league finishes, the 2026/27 campaign feels like the beginning of a new chapter at Stamford Bridge.
The first thing fans should expect is a more structured and intelligent style of football.
Alonso’s teams are known for dominating possession without becoming predictable. His Bayer Leverkusen side earned praise across Europe for their ability to control matches, build attacks patiently, and transition quickly when opportunities appeared.
Chelsea supporters can expect a team that is comfortable on the ball, presses aggressively, and moves with far greater tactical cohesion than in recent years.
One of the biggest changes could come in the defensive phase. Alonso places enormous importance on positional discipline and collective defending.

Chelsea add a proven goalscorer and another experienced midfielder during the summer, the team could look significantly stronger by August.
However, winning the Premier League immediately may still be a step too far. Arsenal are the reigning champions, Manchester City remain one of the strongest squads in Europe, and Liverpool continue to possess world-class quality throughout their team.
Chelsea will need time to fully adapt to Alonso’s methods and build the consistency required to win a 38-game title race.
That said, Chelsea should absolutely be aiming for a top-four finish and a genuine title challenge. The expectation should not necessarily be lifting the trophy in Alonso’s first season, but rather establishing themselves among the Premier League’s elite once again.
