The 2025/26 Premier League season is over, and the general consensus is that Cole Palmer has fallen off.
The Englishman has been a shadow of himself. Although he was injured for most of the season, Cole Palmer hasn’t really hit the heights or played like he once showed two seasons.
Watching him weekly even amplifies this. He has largely been unable to find his shooting boots or pick the pockets of spaces that could put his team on the attack.
His poor form has clearly affected Chelsea this season. Being unable to rely on their star man in a season where they have struggled for form has hurt the Blues more than they have imagined.

However, despite the general consensus that Cole Palmer has fallen off, the numbers say otherwise. Cole Palmer registered 10 goals and one assist in the Premier League. Adding his one goal and two assists in the Champions League, Cole Palmer ended the season with 11 goals and three assists.
In the grand scheme of things, this looks poor, and it is, but comparing him to other players this season, Palmer may just be seen as a flop because of his standards.
His 11 goals and 3 assists came in 31 appearances, which is a good return for that number of games.
Looking At Others In His Category
Morgan Rogers had 13 goals and 11 assists in 53 appearances. Eberechi Eze made 47 appearances for Arsenal and registered just 9 goals and 3 assists. In 46 appearances, Phil Foden had 10 goals and 7 assists.
Looking at the above, Palmer played significantly fewer minutes and is being looked at as the “flop”.
Palmer’s worst season ever, riddled with injuries and he ended up with 10 league goals. For context its more than any winger or attacking midfielder England took to the world cup. Yet we all knew he was poor.

To further add, Palmer is the only midfielder in the Premier League with 10+ goals in the past three seasons.

So has Palmer been bad? Yes, he has, but has been a flop? No and many can only argue that he has been a flop because of his own standards. People now expect huge numbers from him, so that an average season like this, with him in bad form, has him as the poster boy for the worst attacking midfielder in the league.
Not getting the World Cup call further amplifies this, and whether fans or pundits think he does or doesn’t deserve to be dropped, it serves as a wake-up call to the Englishman that his standards are high and he needs to lock in every season, whether he likes it or not.
