Tottenham are reportedly readying an improved bid for Sandro Tonali after Newcastle United rejected an initial £80 million offer for the Italian midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a fresh approach for Sandro Tonali after Newcastle United rejected their opening offer of around £80 million for the Italy international.

The North London club remain determined to strengthen their midfield this summer and view Tonali as one of their priority targets.

Spurs made their first move earlier this week as part of Roberto De Zerbi’s ongoing squad rebuild. However, Newcastle quickly turned down the proposal, making it clear that they have no intention of allowing one of their most influential players to leave without a significant fight.

De Zerbi has long been an admirer of Tonali and is believed to have personally endorsed the move. The Tottenham boss sees the former AC Milan star as the ideal player to anchor his midfield, thanks to his technical quality, defensive discipline, and ability to dictate the tempo of matches.

Despite the rejection, Tottenham have not been discouraged. Club officials are now exploring the possibility of submitting an improved package that could bring them closer to Newcastle’s asking price while including performance-based add-ons and incentives.

Newcastle are understood to value Tonali at close to £100 million and are under little pressure to sell. The Magpies view the 26-year-old as a cornerstone of their project and remain confident in their position, especially given the growing interest from several top European clubs.

Manchester City and Arsenal are both monitoring the situation closely, while Manchester United have also expressed interest in the midfielder.

However, United are not currently expected to formalize their interest with a bid. Meanwhile, Tonali’s former club AC Milan are also said to be keeping tabs on developments.

Aware that negotiations could become increasingly difficult, Tottenham’s recruitment department has continued to assess alternative midfield options.

Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton remains high on the club’s shortlist, with Spurs long-time admirers of the talented England international.
