Patrick Dorgu has returned to Manchester United for further assessment after suffering a suspected hamstring injury while playing for Denmark.
The 21-year-old defender was taken off after 30 minutes of Denmark’s 2-0 Nations League victory over Wales on Sunday.
He received treatment before being substituted and will miss Denmark’s remaining fixtures against Portugal and Wales during the international break.
“We’re sending him home now,” said Denmark coach Brian Riemer on Sunday. “He’s out and won’t be ready for next week. Further examinations must show how long he will be out.”
Dorgu is now back at United’s Carrington training ground, where the club’s medical staff will carry out further tests to determine the extent of the injury.
Manchester United will next play on 10 October, when Tottenham visit Old Trafford in the Premier League. Dorgu’s availability for that match will depend on the outcome of his assessment and his recovery.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes has remained with Portugal despite missing their victory over Norway because of an injury issue. The United captain has been managing the problem since the club’s 4-0 Champions League win over Sabah on 10 September.
Fernandes was considered a doubt for United’s Premier League matches against Manchester City and Fulham but passed late fitness tests and played the full 90 minutes in both. He also appeared for the final 20 minutes of the Carabao Cup defeat by Brighton.
Portugal face Denmark on Thursday and Fernandes could feature despite the issue. Portugal also have a Nations League fixture against Norway on 4 October.
