The decision was announced on Wednesday following discussions between the Portuguese manager and the club’s hierarchy earlier in the week. Talks reportedly took place on Monday, just one day after West Ham’s final league fixture of the campaign.
The Hammers finished the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Leeds United, but the result ultimately proved meaningless after Tottenham Hotspur defeated Everton to secure their own survival and send West Ham down to the Championship.
Speculation had emerged over Nuno’s future following relegation, with some reports suggesting the former Wolves boss could leave the London Stadium during the summer.

However, West Ham’s board have now publicly backed the 52-year-old, pointing to signs of improvement shown by the team during the second half of the season.
Between January and April, West Ham collected 22 points from 13 league matches, briefly raising hopes that they could avoid relegation. Unfortunately for the club, three defeats in their final four matches proved decisive in the survival battle.
In an official statement, West Ham confirmed that Nuno remains fully committed to the project and is highly motivated to lead the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt next season.
The club also highlighted Nuno’s previous success in the Championship, where he guided Wolverhampton Wanderers to the title with 99 points in 2018. West Ham’s hierarchy now believe his experience and recent progress make him the right man to oversee the club’s rebuilding process after relegation.
