Pundit says the former midfielder deserves the position after nine wins in 13 matches
Jamie Carragher believes Michael Carrick has already done enough to earn the Manchester United manager’s job on a permanent basis.
United strengthened their push for a return to the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday. The result leaves them third in the table, 11 points clear of sixth-placed Brighton with four games remaining.
Carrick, who took over in January on an interim basis, has overseen nine wins in 13 matches, a run of form that has transformed United’s season. Carragher said those results make his appointment as full-time manager inevitable.
“He’s going to be the Manchester United manager, certainly next season, no doubt about that – and you can’t say he doesn’t deserve it,” said Carragher.
“They are absolutely sensational results. They’re the results of a title-winning team, or a team going for the league.
“Now I know that pressure isn’t on Manchester United right now, they haven’t got European fixtures, all these other things will come into it, but I don’t think anybody could have come in and done any better results-wise.”
