Manchester United Don’t Need Player Sales to Sign Striker This Summer

Club have more flexibility in the window after making upwards of £30m in player deals

Manchester United are still active in the market for a new striker and will not need to sell players in order to afford one.

Despite having already spent over £130m on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United can still sign a No 9 to complement Rasmus Hojlund.

This is largely because Marcus Rashford’s season-long loan move to Barcelona has freed up over £12m in wages.

Additional funds have also come in through sell-on clauses for former players Anthony Elanga, Alvaro Carreras, and Maxi Oyedele, amounting to around £15m. Not to mention the £5m fee paid by Chelsea after they backed out of a permanent deal for Jadon Sancho.

United’s issues with transfers this summer have revolved around the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, as well as a lack of cash.

But with United having made more than £30m from player contracts and Rashford’s saved wages, the club have a bit more room to navigate the window.

United are currently targeting RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. They have made contact with both clubs.

Newcastle United are also interested in Sesko and have made a bid worth around €80m for the striker.
