Como move back into Serie A’s top five after a solid 2-0 away win over Genoa, giving Cesc Fabregas’ side a huge boost in the Champions League race.
Como boosted their push for UEFA Champions League qualification with a composed 2-0 away victory over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Coming into the match on the back of three league games without a win, Cesc Fabregas’ side needed a response after slipping out of the top four, and they delivered exactly that with a confident display.

Como made the perfect start in the 10th minute when Anastasios Douvikas rose highest to bury a powerful header from Lucas Da Cunha’s inviting cross beyond Justin Bijlow. That early goal settled the visitors, who almost doubled their lead shortly after through Nico Paz. The young playmaker danced past two defenders before narrowly missing the far corner, and later saw a header come back off the post.
Genoa had their moments before halftime and could easily have drawn level, but Como goalkeeper Jean Butez stood firm with an excellent save to deny Sebastian Otoa and preserve the visitors’ slender advantage.
Fabregas was then forced into a change at the break when Paz picked up an apparent injury, and Genoa came out stronger in the second half, pushing aggressively for an equaliser.
However, after surviving that pressure, Como struck decisively on the counter. Substitute Maxence Caqueret produced a clever flick inside the area that allowed Assane Diao to head home the second and effectively seal the points. The win sends Como back up to fifth in Serie A, moving them above Roma and keeping them firmly in the hunt for Champions League football, while Genoa remain stuck in the lower half of the table.
