Inter Milan enter the 2026/27 Serie A season as favourites after Cristian Chivu delivered the title in his first season.
There is an obvious reason to put Inter Milan as favourites to win the 2026/27 Scudetto title.
Cristian Chivu has already delivered the Serie A title in his first season in charge, achieving something that plenty of established coaches fail to do. Rather than treating that success as the beginning of a major rebuild, Inter have largely resisted the temptation to change a winning formula.

That continuity could prove decisive in a league where small improvements can make the difference. Chivu already understands the squad, the demands of the club and the pressure that comes with challenging for trophies. More importantly, his players now know exactly what it takes to win the title under him.
The Squad Still Has Plenty of Experience
Inter’s current squad retains a strong mixture of established stars and younger players. They still have Bisseck alongside Alessandro Bastoni, Benjamin Pavard and Manuel Akanji in defence, while Barella, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Petar Sučić provide options in midfield. Lautaro and Thuram remain the headline attacking partnership.
That depth matters over a full Serie A campaign. Inter are not relying on one or two players to carry the entire team, and Chivu has enough experience throughout the squad to manage injuries, fatigue and the demands of competing on multiple fronts.
While some of their challengers have changed coaches, adjusted their systems or entered new phases of squad building, Inter can start the season with a much simpler objective: improve what already worked.
That is arguably the strongest reason to make them favourites. Chivu does not need to convince his players of a new philosophy from scratch. He needs to refine a team that has already shown it can win Serie A.
The Challengers Still Have to Catch Them
Inter’s rivals will certainly have their own arguments. Juventus have a new direction under Luciano Spalletti, while AC Milan and other contenders will believe they can close the gap. But being a challenger is different from being the defending champion.
Inter begin with the confidence that comes from having already climbed the mountain. Their squad knows how to handle the pressure of a title race, while Chivu has already demonstrated that he can navigate his first full season at the top level.
