Tottenham are closing in on Cristian Romero’s exit to Inter Milan but remain reluctant to sell Lucas Bergvall
The latest from Tottenham is that the futures of Cristian Romero and Lucas Bergvall could be two of the club’s biggest transfer stories before the new Premier League season.
While Romero appears increasingly likely to leave North London, Spurs are taking a much firmer stance over Bergvall, despite growing interest in the Swedish midfielder from several Premier League clubs.
Romero has been expected to complete a move to Inter Milan for much of the summer, but negotiations remain ongoing as both clubs continue to discuss the final transfer fee and payment structure. Personal terms are also still being finalised, with the Argentine defender among Tottenham’s highest earners.

Inter are reportedly attempting to reduce Tottenham’s £42 million valuation, although Spurs remain confident a compromise can eventually be reached. Should the move be completed, the club are expected to reward Micky van de Ven with a new and improved contract as he prepares to become a central figure in Roberto De Zerbi’s defence.
Unlike Romero’s situation, Tottenham are under little pressure to sell Bergvall. The 20-year-old is believed to have explored the possibility of a move after becoming concerned about his chances of regular first-team football following the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this summer.
Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have already seen offers rejected, while Aston Villa remain interested in the midfielder. However, Spurs have made it clear they will only consider an exceptional offer, believed to be in excess of £60 million, before opening discussions.
De Zerbi has reportedly held direct talks with Bergvall in an effort to convince him that he remains an important part of the club’s long-term plans. The Italian manager views the midfielder as a player with significant potential, even if competition for places has increased.

Tottenham’s transfer business is far from complete. After strengthening their defence with the arrivals of Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, the club are still prioritising the addition of two attacking players before the transfer window closes.
Spurs are also monitoring opportunities to strengthen both the goalkeeping and full-back positions as De Zerbi continues to reshape the squad for his first full season in charge.
