Midfielder has three years left on his City contract but has found opportunities limited
Manchester City’s Savinho is pushing for an exit this summer in search of more regular football.
The 22-year-old Brazil international has drawn interest from Tottenham, who are willing to do a deal with City in the region of £60m.
Savinho has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the Etihad Stadium and is reportedly intrigued by the prospect of working under Roberto De Zerbi. City are said to be prepared to consider offers that meet their valuation, which is lower than the reported £70m asking price attached to the player a year ago.
Tottenham have targeted Savinho for some time, with some reports placing him as one of the club’s main attacking targets as De Zerbi continues to rebuild his squad after successive 17th-place finishes. The Italian has made no secret of his intention to build a more attack-minded team and recently indicated that the club’s transfer business is not complete.
Spurs have already spent heavily this summer, bringing in Sandro Tonali from Newcastle for £100m, Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85m and Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m, but despite those arrivals they remain keen to strengthen further in attacking areas.
Savinho still has three years remaining on his City contract but found opportunities limited last season. Injuries disrupted his campaign and he made only 14 starts in all competitions, failing to secure a regular place despite arriving with high expectations after impressing on loan at Girona before joining from City Football Group side Troyes.
AC Milan are also reported to be monitoring the winger’s situation, although the prospect of remaining in the Premier League is understood to be his preferred option.
Tottenham’s recruitment drive has been welcomed by players within the squad. Defender Micky van de Ven said: “It’s really good that you can see the club has made some changes. You can see the club has a new ambition.
“It’s something that’s really important for players who have been here for a long time. Last season was a stressful season, unacceptable from our side, so to leave all of that behind and go into the new season fresh means a lot.”
