Roma remain hopeful of extending Paulo Dybala’s contract despite proposing a major salary reduction
Roma are increasingly confident that Paulo Dybala will remain at the club beyond this season, despite the forward being asked to accept a substantial reduction in wages as part of a proposed new contract.
The Argentine international is currently set to become a free agent in June, prompting Roma to begin formal discussions over an extension. Talks between the club and Dybala’s representatives have already started, with sporting director Frederic Massara holding meetings with the player’s agent, Carlos Novel, earlier this week.

According to reports in Italy, a final decision regarding Dybala’s future is expected after Sunday’s Serie A clash against Lazio. Roma are hopeful the negotiations will progress positively as they attempt to keep one of their most influential attacking players at the Stadio Olimpico.
Dybala currently earns around €8.5 million per season including bonuses, making him one of the club’s highest-paid players. However, Roma’s latest proposal reportedly offers a dramatically reduced salary package worth around €2.5 million annually, with additional performance-related bonuses included in the agreement.
Despite the significant pay cut, Dybala is believed to be open to extending his stay in the Italian capital. Reports suggest the proposed deal would initially run for one more season, with an option to extend for an additional year depending on performances and fitness.
Alongside discussions with Dybala, Roma have reportedly opened negotiations with captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and defender Zeki Celik over new contracts, with both players also approaching the final stages of their current agreements.
