Roma are preparing a €30m bid for Strasbourg winger Diego Moreira, but Chelsea’s buy-back clause and the French club’s €50m valuation could complicate the transfer.

Roma are preparing to step up their pursuit of Strasbourg winger Diego Moreira, with reports in Italy claiming the Serie A club are ready to submit an opening offer worth €30 million as they continue their search for attacking reinforcements this summer.

According to reports, Roma’s proposal will also include a 10% sell-on clause in an attempt to convince Strasbourg to begin negotiations for the highly-rated Belgian international.

The Giallorossi have intensified their search for a new winger after missing out on top target Mason Greenwood, who is expected to complete a move from Marseille to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, forcing Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to identify alternative options.

However, securing Moreira’s signature is unlikely to be straightforward. Strasbourg are reportedly demanding around €50 million for the 21-year-old after his impressive development in Ligue 1 over the past year.

Roma remain hopeful that negotiations can progress, with influential agent Jorge Mendes said to be working behind the scenes to identify a transfer structure that would satisfy all parties involved.

Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on the situation despite selling the winger to Strasbourg in 2024. The Blues inserted a buy-back clause into the agreement, allowing them to match any offer the French club receive if they decide to bring the player back to Stamford Bridge.

That clause could prove decisive if Roma and Strasbourg reach an agreement, with Chelsea retaining the option to intervene should they believe Moreira has a future under Xabi Alonso in west London.

Moreira has continued to enhance his reputation over the past 12 months and was rewarded with a place in Belgium’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His rapid rise has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, making him one of the most sought-after young wingers in the current transfer window.
