Brazil international has just one year left on his contract
Real Madrid are yet to reach an agreement with Vinicius Junior over a new contract.
Negotiations have stalled over the Brazil forward’s salary demands because Madrid want to keep their wage structure under control, according to reports in Spain.
Vinicius has only a year left on his contract and, for a renewal, he reportedly wants a deal worth about €20m net per season, a figure that would make him one of the club’s highest-paid players. Madrid’s hierarchy are reluctant to meet those terms.
Club president Florentino Perez and chief executive Jose Angel Sanchez are understood to be determined not to set a precedent that could affect future negotiations with other senior players.
Vinicius remains a key player for Madrid despite the impasse and the club are keen to keep him and at the same time avoid a drawn-out contract saga, but they want clarity before turning their attention fully to the new campaign.
There are no reported offers for the Brazil international and it is not clear where he would go should he leave Madrid. The 26-year-old is currently on his summer break after the World Cup and is expected to report back to the club before the start of pre-season.
Vinicius made 53 appearances for Real Madrid last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 14 assists.
