Brazil international has just over a year left on his contract but there are no talks yet about an extension
Vinicius Junior has said he wants to remain at Real Madrid his “whole life”, although he insisted neither he nor the club are in a hurry to agree a contract extension.
The Brazil forward’s current deal expires next year. He described Madrid in an interview as “the club of my dreams” and said discussions over a renewal would continue in due course.
“I’ve never imagined myself away from Real Madrid,” Vinicius said. “I enjoy every moment, I want to continue playing here my whole life, but I am also not in a rush to renew my contract.
“We have an agreement until 2027, so until then we have a lot to talk about with Real Madrid. The club is calm about it, I’m calm, the president trusts me and I trust him.”
The comments come as Madrid plan significant changes following another season without a major trophy. The club are reportedly close to appointing Jose Mourinho to take over the squad next season, but talks are understood to have been delayed until after Madrid’s presidential elections.
Vinicius contributed 22 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season as Madrid finished second in La Liga, eight points behind Barcelona.
Questions over the Brazilian’s long-term future intensified earlier this season after reports that he had informed club president Florentino Perez he would not renew his contract while Xabi Alonso remained in charge.
Alonso was ultimately sacked and the forward is understood to have enjoyed a better relationship with his interim successor Alvaro Arbeloa. It is unclear how matters will stand if and when Mourinho does arrive at the Bernabeu.
Vinicius is expected to play a central role for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup under former Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.
