Napoli’s fading title hopes suffered another damaging blow after Antonio Conte’s side were frustrated in a drab 0-0 draw at Como.
Napoli saw their already fragile Scudetto ambitions take another significant hit after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Como in an underwhelming Serie A contest.
With the reigning champions entering the weekend ten points behind Inter Milan, anything less than victory felt damaging, and by full-time, their title defence looked all but extinguished.
There was little sign early on of a Napoli side capable of mounting a serious response. Instead, it was Como who controlled much of the first half with greater clarity, sharper movement and far more attacking ambition. Nico Paz was at the heart of everything the hosts created, repeatedly finding pockets of space and threading passes that left Napoli’s back line scrambling.
The clearest chance of the opening period came when Paz slipped a beautifully weighted pass into the path of Anastasios Douvikas. The striker rounded goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and looked certain to score, only for Amir Rrahmani to produce a superb goal-line intervention and preserve parity.
Como continued to threaten. Assane Diao was the next beneficiary of Paz’s vision, racing through on goal after another incisive midfield pass, but Milinkovic-Savic reacted sharply to smother the low finish.
Napoli, by contrast, offered almost nothing in attack before the interval, their buildup slow and predictable, and their frontline isolated. By half-time, the visitors looked a team playing without conviction, while Como appeared the side more likely to break through.
The second half initially followed the same pattern. Napoli remained disjointed and were once again grateful to Milinkovic-Savic, who adjusted well to keep out Martin Baturina’s awkward deflected attempt. Conte’s men continued to labour in possession, unable to inject urgency or creativity into a match that was increasingly drifting beyond their control.
Only in the closing stages did Napoli finally begin to stir. Scott McTominay was presented with a rare opening when he burst in behind and brought the ball down well, but his near-post effort flew narrowly off target. That miss seemed to jolt the visitors awake, and for the first time Como were forced onto the back foot.
The best of Napoli’s late pressure came five minutes from time when Matteo Politano curled a fine effort against the post, inches away from stealing an undeserved winner. But that proved as close as either side came in a match short on quality and ultimately reflective of Napoli’s away struggles against stronger opposition this season.

For Como, the point may not come with a victory, but it further strengthens an impressive campaign that still leaves them within touching distance of the Champions League places.
For Napoli, however, the consequences are far grimmer. With just 12 points taken from 30 available in away games against sides that began the round in the top half, the inconsistency that has haunted their season was on display again. Inter now look champions-elect, while Conte’s men appear left to fight only for second place.
