Barcelona could win the title if their rivals fail to beat Espanyol on Sunday

Hansi Flick is not interested in watching Real Madrid play Espanyol on Sunday even though a slip-up by their rivals could seal a title win for Barcelona.

Late goals from Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres secured all three points for Flick’s side against Osasuna on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of La Liga to 14 points with four games remaining.

Barcelona can be crowned champions if Madrid fail to beat Espanyol. But Flick would rather go watch local magician El Mago Pop perform than watch their rivals play in the potential title decider.

“No, believe me,” Flick said when asked if he would be watching the game. “I will never do this. It’s not for me. Maybe I will go to El Mago Pop. I think it’s the last day. Maybe I will go with my wife.

“I will keep an eye on our WhatsApp group to see if something happens. Then I know ‘OK it’s a good thing.’ I have to wait.”

Barcelona’s victory was their 10th in a row in the league, though they were made to work for it. It remained goalless until the 81st minute when Lewandowski broke the deadlock via a header from Marcus Rashford’s cross, before Torres added a second five minutes later. Raul Garcia pulled one back for Osasuna in the 88th minute to set up a tense finish.

Flick insisted the players are not celebrating yet despite being so close.

“No it’s not the time for that,” said Flick. “We have to wait. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week against Madrid. We did our job today. This is what I appreciate a lot from the team. We defend well also against a really strong opponent with the crossing.

“We are near winning La Liga. This was our goal. The whole season we are giving everything. Now we are close.”
