Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer.

Lewis-Skelly is 19 years old but extremely talented, and he can play at both left-back and defensive midfield, two positions United could have an eye towards reinforcing.

Chelsea have also been offered a chance to sign the player, according to the reports.

Talk of him leaving is understandable given that competition for midfield places at Arsenal has increased this summer, tough as it already was last year.

Arsenal have signed Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, who most Gooners will be expecting to be a regular in midfield. There are also Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, while Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino are two players who will be expected to fill the more attacking role in midfield.

Lewis-Skelly will therefore face a strong challenge for a starting position.

However, a move seems highly unlikely, and not just because Arsenal would be unwilling to sell a highly talented youngster, but also because word coming out of the player’s camp is that he intends to remain and fight for his place.

The 19-year-old has no plans to seek a move away from the Emirates and is focused on establishing himself in Arsenal’s first-team plans. He has been at Arsenal since he was eight years old. He has been a regular in the club’s pre-season campaign this summer, and he signed a long-term contract last year.

More importantly, he believes he can win a regular place in the side with his talent.

Lewis-Skelly initially came through as a left-back under Arteta before moving into midfield, his preferred position, towards the end of last season. He was instrumental in the last lap of Arsenal’s title-winning run and he started in the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Lewis-Skelly has made 75 appearances for Arsenal and has won six England caps. However, he was not included in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
