Manchester United will make a change to their shirts before Sunday’s home match against Ipswich, after failing to meet Premier League kit regulations in their opening game of the season.

United lost 2-0 at Hull City on Saturday in the first match of Michael Carrick’s tenure as permanent coach.

However, the result and performance were not the only areas where they came up short. United also played the game without the required Premier League badge on the left sleeve of their new third kit.

The error occurred because the club currently have no commercial sponsor on that sleeve following the end of their £20m-a-year agreement with DXC Technology.

Premier League rules state that clubs without a commercial sponsor on the sleeve must display the official competition badge on both arms. United had the badge on the right sleeve, alongside the “No Room For Racism” lettering, but left the other side blank.

The club and the league are aware of the error. United are expected to have the badge on both sleeves when Ipswich visit Old Trafford on Sunday. No formal sanction is expected.

United are still looking for a replacement for DXC Technology. The previous agreement ended last summer, leaving the club without a left-sleeve commercial partner.
