Barcelona winger’s social media post after sealing La Liga in the clásico echoed comments previously made by the England midfielder
Lamine Yamal appeared to respond directly to Jude Bellingham on social media after Sunday’s clásico, which Barcelona won 2-0 to secure La Liga.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres sealed the victory, which moved Barcelona 14 points clear of Madrid with three games remaining. The result confirmed back-to-back league titles under manager Hansi Flick.
Yamal missed the match due to a hamstring injury but joined teammates on the pitch after full-time celebrations.
On Monday, he posted an image of himself celebrating the win from the stands, alongside the message: “Talk is cheap,” accompanied by seven crying emojis.
The post has been interpreted as a response to Bellingham, who had used the same phrase earlier in the season after Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona in October, writing: “Talk is cheap. HALA MADRID SIEMPRE!!!”
That October match had also been preceded by comments from Yamal, who said Madrid “rob and complain”. Following Madrid’s win at the time, several Madrid players, including captain Dani Carvajal, confronted the player on the pitch and publicly criticised his remarks.
At that stage, Madrid led Barcelona by five points in the league, but Barcelona went on a dominant run, winning 23 of their next 25 matches to overturn the deficit, while Madrid collapsed and went on winless run, before sacking Xavi Alonso in January.
Sunday’s victory completed the role reversal and confirmed Barcelona as champions.
