Young midfielder grateful for “the privilege of living my dream every single day”
Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United, committing his future to the club until 2031.
The 21-year-old midfielder’s new deal includes improved terms that place him among the club’s senior earners.
“From The Cliff, to Littleton Road, to Carrington and ultimately Old Trafford, the journey so far has been incredible,” Mainoo said. “I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.
“We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”
Mainoo reached a nadir last year when he considered a loan move in both the summer and the winter windows after falling out of favour under former head coach Ruben Amorim, but both Amorim and the club blocked his departure.
Following the Portuguese coach’s dismissal in January, Mainoo returned to the starting line-up under Michael Carrick and has since become a regular, starting 12 of the team’s last 13 league matches.
Despite missing time earlier in the campaign with a calf injury, he has made 26 appearances this season, bringing his total to 98 senior games since his debut in January 2023.
Mainoo first broke into the first team under Erik ten Hag and has gone on to establish himself as one of the club’s most promising academy graduates. He made his senior debut for England in March 2024 and featured prominently at the European Championship later that year.
He was also recalled to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad last month, appearing as a substitute against Uruguay before starting against Japan.
