Inter Milan have abandoned their €30 million move for Anan Khalaili after the Israeli winger failed mandatory medical tests required by the Italian Olympic Committee.
Inter have officially pulled out of their move for Union Saint-Gilloise winger Anan Khalaili after the player failed mandatory medical examinations required by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). Club president Beppe Marotta confirmed that the transfer has been cancelled despite an agreement already being in place.
The Nerazzurri had reached a deal worth €25 million plus add-ons for the Israel international, taking the total package close to €30 million. Khalaili had also successfully completed his routine medical tests with his current club before travelling to Italy.

However, before any player can be registered by an Italian club, they must undergo CONI’s strict medical screening process. Those examinations, particularly the mandatory cardiovascular stress tests, revealed irregularities that prevented the move from proceeding.
Khalaili underwent another round of assessments in an attempt to resolve the issue, and further testing had initially been expected. Instead, Marotta confirmed during a press conference that CONI had already informed Inter of its final decision.
“We had negotiated the purchase of Khalaili, but he failed the medical tests,” Marotta said. “The CONI informed us, and I wanted to let everyone know. In Italy, the medical regulations are extremely strict. This is not the club’s decision; it is about protecting the player’s health.”
Marotta explained that once CONI refuses to issue the required medical certificate, a player cannot participate in any official sporting competition in Italy. He admitted the outcome was disappointing after lengthy negotiations but stressed that the club must now turn its attention to alternative targets.

Khalaili will now return to Union Saint-Gilloise, where the club’s medical staff will assess the findings and determine whether any treatment or further investigations are required. Italy’s medical regulations remain among the strictest in world football, with players such as Christian Eriksen and Edoardo Bove previously forced to continue their careers outside Serie A due to cardiac concerns.
Inter had identified Khalaili as the ideal replacement for Denzel Dumfries following the Dutch full-back’s €20 million move to Real Madrid. Marotta also revealed the club had been close to agreeing a €50 million deal for Atalanta defender Marco Palestra before Chelsea submitted a significantly higher offer, leaving the Nerazzurri searching once again for reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
