Club have worked on the renewal since April and discussions have been held with Flick’s agent Pini Zahavi
Barcelona are set to hand Hansi Flick a contract extension after the German guided the club to a second consecutive La Liga title following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in the clásico.
According to reports from Spain, Barcelona and Flick, through his agent Pini Zahavi, have reached a full agreement over a new deal that would keep the coach at the club until June 2028. The current agreement had been due to expire in 2027.
The proposed extension also includes an optional additional year tied to performance-related objectives, potentially extending Flick’s stay until 2029.
Barcelona had reportedly been working on the renewal since April. They consider Flick as a central figure in the club’s long-term sporting plans under president Joan Laporta’s next tenure, which officially begins in July.
Negotiations were finalised after meetings involving Zahavi, sporting director Deco and club executives. Zahavi is known to have a close relationship with Laporta, and reports suggest discussions progressed smoothly due to the strong relationship between all parties.
Interim vice-president Rafa Yuste recently indicated that an announcement was close during the club’s title celebrations, praising Flick’s adaptation to both the club and the city.
“The renewal will be very simple,” Yuste said. “The people saw that he is very happy in Barcelona. He has adapted very well to the club. We just need to close some details, but when he and Deco want it, we will make it public.”
