Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is set to miss Spurs’ final Premier League game of the season as he returns to Argentina instead of staying with the squad.

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is reportedly set to miss the club’s final and most important game of the 2025/26 Premier League season, opting instead to return to Argentina during a decisive moment in Spurs’ campaign.

Tottenham head into the final day of the season with their Premier League survival still hanging in the balance, leaving them vulnerable to relegation depending on other results.

If Tottenham lose to Everton and West Ham secure a win against Leeds, Roberto De Zerbi’s side could be relegated to the Championship in a dramatic end to the season.

Despite the stakes, Romero has made the surprising decision not to remain with the squad for the crucial fixture. The Argentine defender is currently sidelined through injury but has still been an important presence around the team.

However, instead of supporting Tottenham from the sidelines, the 28-year-old will return to Argentina, where he is expected to attend a match involving his boyhood club Belgrano against River Plate.

Romero had previously been seen actively involved with the squad despite his injury, including celebrating on the touchline with teammates such as Mathys Tel after a recent goal against Leeds.

His absence from the dugout for such a critical match is likely to raise questions among supporters, given his status as club captain and the importance of the fixture in determining Tottenham’s top-flight future. Tottenham now face Everton in a must-win encounter without their injured skipper present, adding another layer of pressure as they attempt to secure their Premier League survival on the final day.
