Chelsea are increasingly concerned their disappointing season and uncertain future could hurt their chances of signing elite players, with Bayern Munich leading the race for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon.
Chelsea are reportedly growing concerned that their difficult season could seriously damage their ability to attract elite transfer targets this summer, with interest in Anthony Gordon highlighting the issue.
The Newcastle United winger is among several attacking players Chelsea have monitored ahead of the summer transfer window as they prepare to strengthen the squad after a disappointing campaign.

Sources suggest the London club have recently explored the possibility of positioning themselves for a move should Gordon become available when the market reopens in June. However, Chelsea are becoming increasingly aware that their current sporting situation is weakening their chances of landing players of his calibre.
Bayern Munich are currently believed to be leading the race for Gordon’s signature. Internally, there is now a growing acceptance at Stamford Bridge that Chelsea are no longer viewed as one of Europe’s automatic destinations for top-level talent.
That concern extends beyond Gordon as the club prepare for a major rebuild. Chelsea’s poor finish to the season, combined with uncertainty surrounding the project and the lack of a permanent manager, has reportedly made negotiations with elite players more difficult than in previous years.
Gordon himself is understood to view Bayern as the more attractive option at this stage. The Bundesliga giants can offer greater stability, a clearer football structure and regular opportunities to compete for major trophies both domestically and in Europe.
While Bayern are currently challenging at the top of the Bundesliga and narrowly missed out on reaching the Champions League final, Chelsea have fallen to ninth in the Premier League and face mounting pressure to rescue something from the season by winning the FA Cup.
Chelsea are still expected to be active during the upcoming transfer window, with plans to strengthen multiple areas of the squad, including the wing, central defence, midfield and striker positions.
After years of investing heavily in younger prospects, the club are now believed to be prioritising more established players capable of making an immediate impact, though their current instability could continue to complicate negotiations throughout the summer.
