The club also claimed there were errors in the first leg and filed a complaint, which Uefa dismissed as “inadmissible”
Barcelona have filed a second complaint to Uefa over refereeing decisions in their Champions League quarter-final defeat to Atletico Madrid.
The Spanish champions were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate, with Atletico advancing to face Arsenal in the semifinals. Barcelona, however, have challenged the officiating across both legs, claiming key errors influenced the outcome.
“The club has submitted a complaint to Uefa regarding the refereeing performance in the Champions League tie played against Atletico,” Barcelona said in a statement on Thursday.
“The club considers that, across both legs of the tie, several refereeing decisions were made that did not comply with the Laws of the Game, resulting from an incorrect application of the regulations and a lack of appropriate intervention by the VAR system in incidents of clear significance.
“The accumulation of these errors had a direct impact on the course of the matches and on the final outcome of the tie, causing significant sporting and financial harm to the club.
“Through this complaint, the club reiterates the requests previously made to Uefa and, at the same time, offers to collaborate with the organisation with the aim of improving the refereeing system to ensure a more rigorous, fair and transparent application of the Laws of the Game.”
Barcelona also lodged a complaint after the first leg, arguing that defender Marc Pubill should have conceded a penalty and been sent off for a handball incident involving goalkeeper Juan Musso. Uefa rejected it as “inadmissible” earlier this week.
In their latest submission the club did not specify individual decisions, but president Joan Laporta publicly listed several grievances after the second leg.
These included claims that red cards shown to Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia should have been yellow cards, that Dani Olmo was denied a penalty, and that a disallowed goal from Ferran Torres was incorrectly ruled out for offside.
Laporta also argued action should have been taken after Musso caught Fermin Lopez with a boot, leaving him with a cut lip.
“The refereeing was a disgrace,” Laporta said on Wednesday. “We filed a complaint after the first leg and Uefa said it was ‘inadmissible’. We will ask for further explanations.
“The club will also make another complaint because what’s inadmissible is what happened to us on Tuesday once again.”
