Brazil international says “more than five clubs” were interested in his signature
Brazilian forward Antony has said he turned down a late move to Bayern Munich in order to complete his move to Real Betis this summer.
The 25-year-old finalised a six-year deal with Betis on deadline day, ending his difficult three-year spell at Manchester United.
The deal is worth €22m plus €3m in add-ons, with United also securing 50 per cent of any future sale.
Speaking to Cadena Cope, Antony said “more than five clubs” called him, including Bayer, whon made contact just before the move was finalised. But he chose to honour his commitment to Betis.
“One day before the deal was completed, I spoke to the people at Bayern,” said the Brazilian winger.
“I told them that the deal with Betis was 95 per cent complete, and that I would honour my word. I would do so out of respect and love and because I know that I am very happy here.
“I don’t know if they were offering me €7m. With all respect I have for Bayern, which is a world-class club, I am at ease with the decision I’ve taken.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future but I feel very calm about the decision I’ve taken.”
