Roma produced a ruthless display at the Stadio Olimpico, thrashing Fiorentina 4-0 to move within one point of Serie A’s Champions League places.

Knowing that Juventus had dropped points against Verona a day earlier, the Giallorossi entered the contest with a golden chance to close the gap on the top four, and they approached the evening with the urgency of a side aware of what was at stake. Fiorentina, meanwhile, needed only a point to mathematically secure survival, but they were blown away by Roma’s relentless first-half aggression.
The hosts threatened early through the red-hot Donyell Malen, whose scoring form since arriving in January has transformed Roma’s attack. The Dutchman came close to opening the scoring when his deflected strike from distance cannoned off the top of the crossbar, but Roma did not have to wait long to make their dominance count.
From the resulting corner, Niccolo Pisilli delivered a teasing ball into the area and Gianluca Mancini rose highest to thunder a header past the helpless goalkeeper in the 13th minute, sending the Olimpico into full voice.
Roma smelled blood and struck again just four minutes later. A devastating counterattack carved Fiorentina open, with Mario Hermoso carrying the ball forward before slipping in Wesley, who curled a composed finish into the bottom corner to double the home side’s advantage.
Fiorentina were reeling, and Roma showed no signs of easing off. Eleven minutes before the interval, Manu Kone danced brilliantly past Nicolo Fagioli near the byline and squared for Hermoso, who arrived to convert Roma’s third and effectively end the contest before halftime. The visitors did not manage a single shot until the 44th minute, underlining just how one-sided the opening period had been.
Paolo Vanoli responded with a triple substitution at the break in an attempt to spark life into his side, and Fiorentina nearly pulled one back when Riccardo Braschi struck the post moments after coming on. But any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished as Roma resumed control, with Malen once again at the heart of everything dangerous.
The Dutch forward deservedly got his reward for another electric display two minutes before the hour mark, floating in a delightful cross that Pisilli nodded home to make it 4-0 and cap a devastating night for the capital club. Roma could have had even more, while the only disappointment for Claudio Ranieri’s side was that Malen himself did not get on the scoresheet despite tormenting Fiorentina throughout.
It was another emphatic statement from a Roma side peaking at exactly the right moment. The victory extends their formidable unbeaten home league run and lifts them back into fifth place, now just one point behind the Champions League spots with three matches left to play. Fiorentina, by contrast, were left battered after one of their poorest performances in recent months.
