Response comes after fan group hailed new signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak as the biggest upgrade in footballing history
Mohamed Salah has criticised a popular Liverpool fan account for “disrespecting” former teammates Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez following a social media post that mocked their departures from Anfield.
The account, Anfield Edition, shared an image on X of new signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak alongside black-and-white pictures of Diaz and Nunez, with the caption: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”
Salah, who captained Liverpool to their 20th league title last season, responded directly: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
The fan account, which has more than 500,000 followers, apologised but only half-heartedly.
The group said: “Whilst we acknowledge Mo Salah, it wasn’t the intention to disrespect, more to highlight the incredible transfers this summer. But we’re sorry, @MoSalah.
“In our opinion, more right than wrong.”
Diaz joined Bayern Munich this summer after scoring 13 goals to help Liverpool win the title last season, while Nunez moved to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia after an up-and-down three year period at Liverpool.
Liverpool spent heavily in this summer’s transfer window, breaking their own and the Premier League transfer record twice to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m and then Isak from Newcastle for £125m.
