Eder Militao has returned to group training with Real Madrid after 195 days out with a muscle injury.

The Brazil international has not played since April and missed the start of the season while recovering from the latest setback. Real Madrid confirmed his return to training on Monday by publishing a photograph of the 28-year-old on the training pitch.

Militao’s latest injury is part of a difficult three-year period for the centre-back. He suffered two cruciate ligament injuries, the first keeping him out from August 2023 until March 2024 and the second ruling him out from November 2024 until June 2025.

He then suffered a recurrence of a muscular problem in April, extending his absence and leaving him without a competitive appearance for more than six months.

Madrid are expected to take a cautious approach to his return. The club’s medical staff will monitor his response to training before he is considered for matches, with Mourinho also expected to avoid rushing him back into full-intensity competition.

Militao’s return to group work therefore does not mean he is ready to start immediately. His workload will be increased gradually as Madrid seek to avoid another setback after a series of serious injuries.

Real Madrid return to action on 10 October against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu. They are fourth in La Liga, six points behind leaders Barcelona.
