Grealish was left out of Manchester City’s squad for the Club World Cup; player has two years left on his contract
Manchester City are open to loaning out Jack Grealish if no clubs make any formal offers to sign him on a permanent deal, sources close to the club have said.
City want £50m for Grealish, which is half of what they paid to prise him from Aston Villa in 2021. The 29-year-old still has two years remaining on his contract but was left out of Pep Guardiola’s squad for the Club World Cup in the United States, raising further questions about his future.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has informed him that he needs to be playing regularly if he is to make the England squad ahead of the World Cup in 2026. The player is said to be keen on playing for England.
Grealish earns £300,000 a week, which could complicate any transfer beyond the amount City are demanding for him. A club like Newcastle would ideally love to sign the winger, but a permanent deal would be difficult to do financially. A loan deal would be much easier as it means that City will subsidise Grealish’s salary.
Guardiola’s decision to give Grealish only a bit-part role last season and then leave him out of the Club World Cup squad this summer suggests the player is not part of his plans. City have been actively reshaping their squad, spending £288m on new signings this year, Tijjani Reijnders (£46.6m), Rayan Ait-Nouri (£31m), and Rayan Cherki (£30m) all arriving this summer.
