Staying at Manchester City to fight for his place remains a possibility for Grealish
Jack Grealish has been left out of Manchester City’s Club World Cup squad, casting doubt on his future at the club.
The 29-year-old, who endured a frustrating season in the Premier League with just seven league starts, is expected to make a decision on his future this summer.
Grealish wants to play regular football and also return to the England squad. Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel is reportedly open to including him in England’s World Cup plans, but he would have to be playing regularly, something that no longer seems guaranteed at the Etihad.
Manchester City are aware of Grealish’s ambitions and want to help him reinvigorate his career. Pep Guardiola, speaking after City’s final Premier League game of the season – a 2-0 win at Fulham that Grealish did not feature in – said that the club are willing to support the midfielder and work with his representatives to find a solution that suits all parties.
The player was left out of City’s Club World Cup squad to give him a chance to rest and prevent injuries so that he can make a decision on his future, mostly likely finding a new club, according to Sky Sports.
However, being left out of the Club World Cup is “not necessarily” a sign that Grealish’s time at City is up. He is still a Manchester City player with two years on his contract.
If an option to play regularly elsewhere other than Manchester City were to come up in the summer, Grealish and his representatives would consider it, but remaining at the club to fight for his place remains a possibility for the England international.
