Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed immense satisfaction following his team’s vital 1-0 win against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, a result that keeps their Champions League qualification hopes alive.

The decisive goal came in the 71st minute when Marc Cucurella headed in a cross from captain Reece James. Maresca praised his team’s aggressive play and tactical execution, stating, “We were aggressive, we were brave, and we were tactically very good.”

The match was not without drama, as a pitch invader in a Chelsea shirt interrupted the game in its final moments, momentarily halting play and allowing Manchester United an uncontested drop ball. Commentators criticized the fan for risking Chelsea’s hard-fought win.

With this victory, Chelsea moved up to fourth place in the Premier League standings, overtaking Aston Villa. They now need a win against Nottingham Forest on the final day to guarantee a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023.

Reflecting on the team’s overall performance, Maresca emphasized the importance of maintaining control and composure throughout the match. “The problem is if you attack quickly, you are going to concede a quick attack, and it’s not our idea, it’s not our football,” he said. “Today, with Pedro on one side, Noni on the other, Cole in the pocket, Enzo in the pocket, they are also good at making passes and arriving in the last third to create and score goals.”

As Chelsea prepares for their final league match against Nottingham Forest, Maresca remains focused on securing Champions League qualification and building on the team’s recent momentum. “We are ready to finish in the top five because we have been consistent enough, not to compete for the title but enough to qualify for the Champions League because we have been there all season,” he stated.

The Blues will look to carry this form into their upcoming fixtures, with the aim of returning to Europe’s elite competition and concluding the season on a high note.
