Bournemouth defender has signed a contract with Los Blancos and completed medical in £50m deal

Real Madrid have concluded the signing of Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, with the defender set to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup for the club in June. Madrid struck a £50 million deal for the player, who then completed his medical on Friday.

The 20-year-old centre-back, who has impressed during his debut Premier League campaign, is poised to return to Spain after a standout season with the Cherries. Real Madrid identified Huijsen as a priority signing as they prepare to bolster their defensive options for the 2025-26 season and beyond. Reports are that incoming manager Xabi Alonso rates him very highly.

The Spaniard was granted permission by Bournemouth to travel to Madrid for his medical, with personal terms already agreed, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Fabrizio announced on X yesterday: “Understand Dean Huijsen has now signed his contract as new Real Madrid player! Deal completed, all signed also between clubs with Bournemouth for £50m fee. Contract until June 2030, medical done yesterday in London.”

Huijsen’s journey has been anything but typical. Having developed through Malaga’s youth academy, he left Spain for Juventus in 2021, where he made his professional breakthrough. A move to Bournemouth followed last summer in a £12.8 million transfer, a figure that now looks like a bargain with the south-coast club set to make an eye-watering return on investment.

Huijsen’s farewell to Bournemouth is expected to come in the Premier League club’s final home match of the season against Leicester City on 25 May, barring any last-minute breakdowns in negotiations.

Real Madrid are also set to bring in Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will join on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer. Both moves show the club’s intent to refresh their defensive unit after a season with considerable injuries to the backline.
