Arsenal must keep pace with City
Arsenal have little room for error in the early stages of the Premier League title race. Mikel Arteta’s side return to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday to face Everton, knowing that another victory is needed to keep the pressure on Manchester City.
The Gunners have won their last two league matches, beating Leeds United 2-1 before edging Nottingham Forest 1-0 last weekend. They then travelled to Munich and came away with a 2-2 draw against Bayern in the Champions League, a result that should give them confidence ahead of the visit of Everton.
Everton, however, will not make the trip simply to make up the numbers. David Moyes’ side had made a steady start to the season before suffering their first league defeat against Chelsea last weekend. They lost 2-0 at home, ending their unbeaten run and leaving them with a response to make in north London.
Everton will hope to exploit any fatigue from Arsenal’s European trip. Moyes’ side have drawn several matches this season and have shown they can be difficult to beat, particularly away from home. Their challenge will be to remain organised throughout and take advantage of any opportunities that come their way.
The Toffees have struggled against Arsenal in recent meetings, though. They are without a win in their last seven matches against the Gunners, and their previous visit to the Emirates ended in a 2-0 defeat. Arsenal are big favourites here.

Team News
Arsenal will be without Bukayo Saka, who suffered a thigh injury against Bayern Munich and is undergoing further tests to find out its extent. William Saliba remains out with a back injury, while Christos Tzolis is also unavailable. Piero Hincapie has returned to training and is available again, although Arteta may manage his minutes after his recent ankle problem.
Everton have no major new injury concerns following their defeat to Chelsea. Moyes has remained cautious about revealing the full fitness picture, however, and Jarrad Branthwaite’s availability will need to be assessed before kick-off. Christian Norgaard has recovered from a groin problem and recently made his debut for the club.
