Inter are reportedly considering Genoa and Norway defender Leo Ostigard as a replacement for Stefan De Vrij as the club prepares for a defensive rebuild ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Inter have reportedly added Leo Ostigard to their shortlist of defensive targets as the Nerazzurri continue planning for life after Stefan De Vrij. The Genoa and Norway defender has emerged as a serious option following an impressive campaign in Serie A and a strong start to his World Cup campaign.
The search for reinforcements has intensified after De Vrij’s departure became all but certain. The experienced Dutch defender is expected to join Panathinaikos after deciding against extending his stay at San Siro, bringing an end to a successful spell with the Italian giants.
Inter are already working on multiple defensive additions this summer. Oumar Solet remains the club’s primary target to replace Francesco Acerbi, but the Nerazzurri are also looking for another centre-back capable of filling the void that De Vrij will leave behind.
Ostigard’s performances for Genoa have made him one of the standout candidates. The 26-year-old enjoyed an excellent season in Liguria, making 31 Serie A appearances and contributing five goals, an impressive return for a central defender and one of the strongest individual campaigns at the club.

His momentum has continued on the international stage. Representing Norway at the World Cup, Ostigard has already made an impact by scoring against Iraq, further enhancing his growing reputation and attracting attention from clubs across Europe.
The Norwegian international is no stranger to success in Italy. Before joining Genoa, he was part of the Napoli squad that won the Serie A title during the 2022/23 season, giving him valuable experience at the highest level of Italian football.
Despite Inter’s interest, completing a deal will not be straightforward. Genoa only activated their option to sign Ostigard permanently from Rennes for €2.5 million in January and are under no pressure to sell one of their most important players. As a result, any potential transfer would likely require a significant offer.
Inter may also have to be patient. Reports suggest the club’s immediate focus remains on finalizing deals for other defensive targets, including Provedel, Palestra, and Solet. Once those situations are resolved, the Nerazzurri could return their attention to Ostigard, although convincing both Genoa and the player himself may prove to be their biggest challenge.
