Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany says his side must move on from their Champions League exit to PSG quickly as they focus on finishing the season strongly and winning the German Cup.
Vincent Kompany has insisted Bayern Munich will not dwell on their painful Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain, urging his players to quickly refocus on ending the season with more silverware.
Bayern’s European hopes came to an end on Wednesday after a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in Munich sealed a 6-5 aggregate defeat in the semi-finals. Despite the disappointment, the Bavarians have already secured the Bundesliga title and still have the German Cup final to look forward to later this month.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s league clash with VfL Wolfsburg, Kompany admitted the elimination had hurt the squad, but stressed that his focus had already shifted toward the future.
“It is normal to be disappointed, it was such a big goal, and it cost a lot of energy,” Kompany said. “But from the next day, it is only about the future. My role is to project that and how we must react.”
The Belgian coach has faced criticism following the PSG defeat, particularly over Bayern’s aggressive defensive setup and high line, which left space for the French champions to exploit across both legs of the semi-final.

However, Kompany made it clear he has no intention of abandoning his attacking philosophy. Bayern have conceded 12 goals in their last four matches in all competitions, but the manager pointed to the team’s remarkable attacking numbers as evidence that the approach continues to work.
Bayern have already broken the Bundesliga record for most goals scored in a single season, netting 116 times with two league games still to play. The previous record of 101 goals had stood since the 1971/72 campaign.
“We are very pragmatic people in Belgium,” Kompany said. “If the goal difference is an all-time record of 81, then you have done quite a lot so as not to lose matches. We win the games, and the goal difference shows that we do it with a great difference against our opponents.”
After facing Wolfsburg and Cologne in their final Bundesliga fixtures, Bayern will turn their attention to the German Cup final against VfB Stuttgart in Berlin on May 23rd.
Kompany believes the remainder of the campaign offers his side the perfect opportunity to show they have fully recovered from their Champions League disappointment.
