Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has welcomed speculation linking Jadon Sancho with another return, saying the winger’s presence would once again be a major boost for the club.
Jadon Sancho’s future is once again becoming a subject of intense transfer discussion, and inside Borussia Dortmund, there already appears to be support for the English winger making another comeback.
Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has openly admitted he would welcome Sancho back to the Bundesliga side, adding fresh fuel to reports that the German club could explore a third reunion with one of their most recognizable former stars.

Sancho first rose to prominence during his electric spell at Borussia Dortmund between 2017 and 2021, when he developed from an exciting prospect into one of Europe’s most productive young attackers. His pace, creativity and fearless dribbling made him one of the Bundesliga’s standout entertainers before a big-money transfer took him to Manchester United.
That move, however, never fully delivered the career lift many expected. After an inconsistent and often difficult period in England, Sancho returned to Dortmund on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign. While his second stint did not produce the same dazzling statistics as his first, fans saw the player they had once admired.

Kobel is one of those who clearly appreciated what Sancho brought. Speaking in a recent interview, the Swiss goalkeeper said the winger’s presence had been very beneficial for the squad, even if the raw numbers did not quite mirror the explosive heights of his earlier years at the club. More importantly, Kobel highlighted Sancho’s attitude and influence within the dressing room, suggesting he remained a positive force both on and off the pitch.
That is why Kobel made little attempt to hide his enthusiasm when asked about the possibility of another return. He said he would be happy to have Sancho back again, particularly if the player arrives with the same mindset and willingness to contribute that he showed during his previous loan spell.
Sancho’s long-term future remains uncertain because his contract with Manchester United is due to expire this summer, making him one of the market’s most intriguing attacking free agents. He has spent this season on loan at Aston Villa, where he has managed only one goal and three assists in 34 appearances, numbers that suggest he is still searching for the consistency that once made him one of England’s brightest exports.

“I think it’s one of those things. Sometimes you come to a club, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t quite work. That’s natural, it happens at every club”.

For Dortmund, that uncertainty could create an opportunity. The club knows the player, the environment suits him, and there is already evidence that key figures like Kobel believe he can still offer value. Whether a third chapter actually materializes remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: if Sancho is looking for a place to rebuild momentum and rediscover his best football, the door at Dortmund is far from closed.
