There were concerns that the Egyptian had made his last appearance for the club in the game against Crystal Palace
Mohamed Salah is expected to return to action before the end of the season, Liverpool have confirmed, after the forward suffered what the club described as a minor injury.
Salah was substituted during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday with what initially appeared to be a hamstring issue, with concerns rising that he might not be able to feature again before the end of the season, which would mean that he ended his final appearance for the club limping off the pitch.
However, a club statement released on Wednesday clarified that the problem is a “minor muscle injury”.
Liverpool added that the Egypt international is expected to be available before their final game of the campaign against Brentford on 26 May. The winger announced last month that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, bringing an end to a nine-year spell at the club.
Captain Virgil van Dijk said after the Palace game that Salah would get a send-off at Anfield regardless of whether he was able to play or not.
“I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible,” Van Dijk said.
“If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in the situation he is in, there is only two more home games left for him, it’s a combination of feelings that go through your mind.
“Hopefully he won’t be long. Maybe he’s back next week, maybe not. I have no idea.
“He will get the send-off regardless. I don’t think that is the thing at this point, we shouldn’t think too far ahead.
“Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer and with the right people around him and let’s see.”
