Club would be open to him missing Spain’s opening World Cup matches against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabi
Barcelona want Spain not to rush Lamine Yamal back to action even if it means missing the first two games of the World Cup, after the youngster’s latest hamstring injury.
The teenager is still expected to feature at this summer’s World Cup, although concerns have emerged over his fitness. Barcelona have now taken steps to ensure his recovery is carefully managed.
According to reports, the club held a meeting this week involving their sporting commission and physiotherapists Raul Martinez and Fernando Galan, both of whom have experience working with the Spanish national team and maintain communication with the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
The discussion focused on assessing Yamal’s injury, aligning medical information between club and country, and planning his recovery ahead of joining Luis de la Fuente’s squad.
Barcelona’s position is that Yamal should not be rushed back, given the risk of relapse with hamstring injuries. The club’s priority is his long-term fitness, both for the World Cup and next season.
They would be open to him missing Spain’s opening matches against Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia, with a view to having him fully fit for the final group game against Uruguay and the knockout stages.
Barcelona have already communicated their stance to the RFEF and are prepared to intervene if they believe his recovery is being accelerated too quickly.
With the Champions League set as a key objective next season, the club want Yamal to return at full fitness.
