Can Chelsea Pull Off A Comeback vs PSG?

The second leg of the UEFA Champions League is upon us, and after a 5-2 loss to PSG in the first leg, Chelsea must now do the impossible if they want to qualify.

Is a comeback on the cards? That has been the thought of many Chelsea fans as they prepare for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against PSG.

In the previous fixture, Chelsea were beaten 5-2 in a tie that could’ve ended 2-2 or 3-2. The Blues conceded two late goals from Kvaratskhelia, which ended any hopes of them taking a respectable scoreline back to the bridge.

Upon returning to Stamford Bridge for their Premier League fixture against Newcastle, a ground which they haven’t lost to the Magpies since 2012, Chelsea were unconvincing and beaten 1-0

Chelsea played like the loss to PSG knocked the wind out of their sails as they were slow, unorganized, and dull. Fans who thought their team would have a chance against PSG in the second leg have lost all hope.  To add more salt to the injury, PSG didn’t play this weekend, meaning they are well rested for the second leg.

Chelsea have also been uninspiring at the Bridge, making it less of a fortress at this point. Chelsea have picked up more points on the road than at home, which makes the odds of a possible comeback even less.

Despite all this, we still have to admit that football isn’t scripted, but can Chelsea write this script in their favour? We will have to wait till full-time to find out.

Team News

Last week’s seven-goal spectacular in Paris was partially marred by Pedro Neto inexplicably shoving a PSG ball boy, for which he could be punished with a one-match ban as UEFA investigates the incident. While the results of that investigation aren’t out yet, Neto is still eligible to face PSG.

Estevao is expected to be in action or be on the bench for this return leg, but Jorgensen, who started in the first leg, won’t feature due to a groin injury.

Meanwhile, PSG have had no commitments to attend to in between the first and second leg, so Enrique is expected to arrive in London with an identical squad from last week.

Only Fabian Ruiz (knee) and 18-year-old winger Quentin Ndjantou (hamstring) are expected to miss out for the visitors, whose midfield metronome Vitinha has now scored in three successive UCL appearances against English clubs.
