Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham: Szoboszlai 18; Richarlison 90
On this evidence, Tottenham may be able to do just enough to stay up. Igor Tudor finally has a point to his name. It only took the firefighter five games, although perhaps Liverpool might have themselves to blame for not closing off the tie and allowing Richarlison to hit back and earn Spurs some reprieve in the 90th minute at Anfield.
Tottenham played well by their recent standards but predictably went behind in the 18th minute after Dominik Szoboszlai’s free kick had Guglielmo Vicario palming the ball into his own net. A typical Tottenham collapse seemed possible.
But then again, Arne Slot’s side were hardly up to it. Here at Anfield in front of their supporters they were uninspiring, 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha the brightest spot in a front line that also had Cody Gakpo and Jeremie Frimpong.

Tudor’s side had less of the ball and had to show their defensive capabilities but they also asked reasonable questions, both sides frequently exchanging blows. Souza tested Alisson in the opening quarter of an hour and after Szoboszlai had opened the scoring Gakpo forced an excellent save from Vicario.
Richarlison was the liveliest of the Spurs contingent as Tudor’s side tried to hit Liverpool on the counter. There was concern as the clock ticked on and Liverpool failed to build on their lead. Slot had to do something and he made a triple substitution after the hour, bringing on Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike and Curtis Jones for Frimpong, Ngumoha and Florian Wirtz.
It changed little and in the final minute of normal time, substitute Randal Kolo Muani held off Virgil van Dijk and played a pass into Richarlison, who slotted past Alisson to bring some relief to Tudor and all of the Spurs persuasion.
