Borussia Dortmund came from behind to beat Heidenheim 3-2, closing the gap on Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race.

Borussia Dortmund kept the Bundesliga title race alive with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Heidenheim, cutting Bayern Munich’s lead at the top to six points and tightening their hold on second place.

Despite scoring exactly three goals in each of their previous four league matches, Dortmund struggled to impose themselves early on. Serhou Guirassy’s powerful effort, which was well saved by Diant Ramaj, was the hosts’ only notable attempt in a cagey opening 20 minutes.

Heidenheim thought they had taken a shock lead midway through the first half when Patrick Mainka bundled the ball into the net, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. Kobel then produced a vital save in the 26th minute, denying Eren Dinkci’s rebound after a scramble in the box.

Dortmund began to build momentum as the half wore on, with Nico Schlotterbeck wasting a free header from a corner and Guirassy clipping the crossbar with an audacious chip. The breakthrough eventually arrived when Ramaj spilled another corner, allowing Waldemar Anton to smash home from close range.

However, the visitors responded immediately. On the stroke of half-time, Mathias Honsak surged down the left flank and picked out Julian Niehues, who made no mistake at the second attempt to restore parity.

Heidenheim carried that belief into the second half and stunned the home crowd within three minutes of the restart. Substitute Arijon Ibrahimovic danced past defenders on the wing before pulling the ball back for Niehues, whose long-range strike flew beyond Kobel to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Dortmund’s response was emphatic. VAR spotted a handball in the build-up to Guirassy’s saved effort, earning the striker a penalty which he converted despite Ramaj getting a hand to it.

Moments later, Maximilian Beier’s burst down the left set up Guirassy for the decisive goal, sealing a comeback that extends Dortmund’s unbeaten league run to 12 matches. Heidenheim remain rooted to the bottom, still five points from safety.
