“I know Man United were better but we have to improve and move on,” insists Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola says his City side have not had a conversation about their defeat to United in the Manchester derby on Saturday.

City lost 2-0 to United, the home side controlling the game from start to finish despite having only 32 per cent of the ball. The loss meant that City slipped up in their pursuit of league leaders Arsenal, though the Gunners failed to properly capitalise on that, instead drawing 0-0 against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground to give themselves a seven-point lead at the summit.

“Coming here we didn’t talk one word about United,” said Guardiola ahead of his side’s Champions League game against Bodo/Glimt. “I think we’ll talk before Wolves but now is another competition.

“We have the chance to qualify in the top eight. That, I think, is enough to focus on, not what happened in the past.

“I didn’t review the game but I know United were better. When they’re better you just have to congratulate them, improve and move on.”

The City head coach said midfielder Phil Foden was a bit hurt but should be fine to play in Norway.

“He has, a little bit, broken his bones but he has protection and he is fine for tomorrow,” said Guardiola, who then revealed that Erling Haaland was “fit” and had “slept unbelievably”.

Bodo/Glimt play on an artificial surface, which may impede City in the way that they play. Guardiola waved it aside, saying it was not an issue.

“Life is never red carpet,” said City’s coach. “The quicker you adapt and adjust in these uncomfortable situations, you are closer to success.

“If I start to cry for this situation or other ones that happened, you don’t achieve what we achieved in the past.”
