Alessandro Bastoni admits Inter “should’ve done better” on both Napoli goals, but insists the 2-2 draw and their Serie A leadership should be “seen in a positive light”.
Inter took the lead through Federico Dimarco’s angled drive, but Napoli equalized thanks to Scott McTominay’s reply. Hakan Calhanoglu converted a penalty that infuriated Antonio Conte, but McTominay scored again to claw Napoli back into the game.
“We should’ve done better on the goals, but must also recognize the quality of the opponents, who have players of the highest level,” Bastoni told the media. “I still believe we’ve had a very good first half of the season.”
Inter has struggled in big games this season, with a winless streak in the last 14 meetings with Napoli, Milan, or Juventus. However, Bastoni sees tonight’s game as a positive.
“Unfortunately, when you concede a goal, there are many errors that lead up to it,” Bastoni continued. “Napoli are a strong side, so despite everything, I see tonight’s game in a positive light.”
The result leaves the title race unchanged, with Inter on top on 43 points, followed by Milan on 40 and Napoli on 39. Roma and Juventus can catch up, but the top three have a game in hand.
