Matteo Politano starred with two assists as Napoli beat nine-man Lazio 2-0 in a heated Serie A clash that featured three red cards at the Stadio Olimpico.
Matteo Politano delivered a standout performance as Napoli claimed a deserved 2-0 away win over Lazio, closing to within one point of Serie A leaders AC Milan in a match marked by intensity and discipline issues.
Antonio Conte’s side dominated proceedings at the Stadio Olimpico, with Lazio failing to register a single shot on target before the final whistle. Napoli were also reduced to ten men late on, but their control of the game was rarely threatened.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Politano whipped in a precise cross from the right, which Leonardo Spinazzola met with a composed volley to beat the Lazio goalkeeper.
Napoli doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark as Politano struck again, this time delivering a dangerous free-kick that Amir Rrahmani powered home with a well-timed header in the 32nd minute.
Eljif Elmas went close to adding a third after hitting the woodwork earlier in the match, before heading wide from a promising chance as Napoli continued to apply pressure.
The closing stages descended into chaos, with Lazio’s Tijjani Noslin sent off for a second yellow card after a reckless challenge on Alessandro Buongiorno, followed by straight red cards for Adam Marusic and Napoli’s Pasquale Mazzocchi after an on-field altercation.
Despite Mateo Guendouzi rattling the crossbar late on, Napoli remained largely untroubled, sealing back-to-back league wins and extending their run to four consecutive victories in all competitions without conceding a goal, while Lazio’s 12-game unbeaten league streak against Napoli came to an emphatic end.
