Initial tests have raised fears the striker has suffered a significant fracture and Liverpool are now waiting for confirmation
Liverpool are bracing themselves for a serious injury to Alexander Isak, with scans expected to confirm that the striker has suffered a broken leg.
The club and player are still waiting on the results of an MRI following the incident at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Isak was injured moments after scoring in Saturday’s Premier League win. The Sweden international was caught in a sliding challenge from Micky van de Ven as he finished past the Spurs goalkeeper and went down immediately, unable to celebrate the goal.
Medical staff were quickly called on and a stretcher was brought onto the pitch, although Isak eventually walked off himself with some assistance. Initial tests have raised fears that he has suffered a significant fracture, and Liverpool are now facing an anxious wait for full confirmation.
“It’s difficult to know what he exactly has,” head coach Arne Slot said after the match. “But it’s never a nice thing that after the goal he collided with their defender. Hopefully he’s fine, but we have to wait and see.”
If confirmed, the injury would represent another major setback for Isak. His first season at Anfield after the senstional £125m move has already been disrupted by a lack of pre-season as well as niggling injuries. The 26-year-old missed as many as five matches earlier this term with a groin problem. Isak has scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
