Breakdown in relationship with the Egyptian has the club checking their options in the market

Liverpool are considering a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window, following the falling out between Mohamed Salah and the club.

Semenyo is one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated wingers, already attracting interest from several top clubs. In the summer, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur both tried to sign him.

The player has a release clause in his contract, set at £60m plus £5m in add-ons, that will become active in January. It means potential suitors can secure his services as early as next month if he agrees to the move.

Liverpool were interested in Semenyo in the summer but did not make a move for him, despite selling Luis Diaz and not signing a replacement for the Colombian. Instead they signed Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.

It is not clear whether the club had any intentions of going into the market so soon for a forward player after spending more than £300m on attacking players in the summer window, but the situation with Salah has changed things, according to sources close to the club.

Salah’s relationship with Arne Slot and the club has become strained after the forward said he had been “thrown under the bus” and accused the club of breaking promises. He was subsequently dropped from the squad for the Champions League game against Inter Milan

The Egyptian is due to link up with his nation for the Africa Cup of Nations, which he will play in until at least mid-January, right when the winter transfer window is open. If the club are unable to come to terms with the winger, then entering the market for Semenyo might well be their most sensible option.
