Football Supporters Europe urges Fifa to pause ticket sales and review “extortionate” pricing
Fifa has provoked anger among fans after releasing the details of ticket pricing for the 2026 World Cup.
Figures published by national associations and fan organisations show that even the lowest-tier tickets for the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will cost over €3,000.
Football Supporters Europe (FSE), a fan representative body on the continent, described the pricing as “extortionate” and a “monumental betrayal” of the tradition of the World Cup.
The group said prices for a fan to attend every match from the group stage through to the final could exceed €6,900, roughly five times what it would have cost to do so at the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
In a statement, FSE said that the high costs completely disregard the contribution supporters make to the event, and they urged Fifa to pause ticket sales and review the pricing.
Supporter groups in England have also spoken out against the costs. The England Fans’ Embassy called the prices “a slap in the face” for fans, and the Free Lions said supporters need “protection from these rip-off prices”.
