Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany admits Arsenal were better on the night, praising the Gunners’ game management and tiny details that swung the 1‑3 defeat.
Vincent Kompany opened his post‑match press conference with a blunt take: “Details decided this match.” Bayern had fallen 3-1 to Arsenal, and the Belgian coach was quick to acknowledge the disappointment while keeping his composure.
“Everyone can lose, that’s football,” Kompany said. “After the initial phase, I actually felt we grew into the match quite well in the first half and even had some momentum on our side. But somehow we didn’t come out of the dressing room the same way, and Arsenal took control of the game.”
He singled out Arsenal’s mastery of the small moments. “Arsenal are incredibly good at game management. They handle even the small things, throw‑ins, little fouls, exceptionally well. These details matter enormously in matches like this, and today they were better than us in those areas.”
Despite the sour result, Kompany’s enthusiasm for the level of competition remained intact. “I hope we get games like this again very soon. They’re fun, and I honestly feel like playing on again right now.”
He also tipped his hat to Mikel Arteta’s long‑term project: “Arteta and Arsenal have fought for this for six years. They were challengers for so long, and now they know exactly what to do in the small moments to reach the top, even down to things like the ball boys taking a bit longer when needed.”
Kompany refused to hide behind excuses. “We lost today, and Arsenal were simply better than us. On the weekend we need to find new solutions, but my team gives me the feeling that they’re already hungry again.”
Looking ahead, the Belgian coach kept a pragmatic view of the Champions League campaign. “You don’t win the Champions League in November. Of course Arsenal go into their next games with confidence, but if we win matches like this in spring, it will mean much more. I’m just excited for the next battles at this level.”
